African Elephant

Hello, I am an African Elephant.  An estimated 30,000 of my species were lost to poaching and habitat destruction in 2019. I am being poached at a rate that exceeds the birth rate of my species.  I am on a path to extinction, and could perish from the earth in your lifetime. Imagine a world that did not include me.

What We Do

International Wildlife Defense Foundation (IWDF) is dedicated to the defense of endangered wildlife and wild places around the world; from elephants, rhinos, leopards, giraffes in Africa, jaguars in Central and South America, tigers in India and Sumatra, and the rain forests of Brazil, Costa Rica and Peru.

Why We Do It

We are Experiencing the Sixth Mass Extinction

  • "The population sizes of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles have seen an alarming average drop of 68% since 1970."

  • "The Holocene extinction, otherwise known as the Sixth Mass Extinction, is an ongoing extinction event of species during the present Holocene epoch as a result of human activity"

  • "One of the most barbaric and preventable human-caused activities that is pushing many animal species into extinction is poaching."
